Storytelling Card Game

Turn your "Tell Me A Story" $1 spot cards into an oral storytelling (or written story) dice game that supports storytelling, writing, story elements, and number recognition to 10.

Supplies needed:
  • Story Telling Cards (Target $1 Spot)
  • Blank Dice (I'm using mini dry erase dice)
  • Marker or Stickers

When you open your deck, you will want to sort them into 3 categories. 1 category per dice. I broke my cards into characters, settings, and objects/other. Once separated, I assigned each category 3 different numbers ( and four numbers to the setting cards).

For the character cards, I randomly assigned the numbers 1, 7, and 8 to them by placing a sticker to the back corner. *You could use a sharpie for this - I just had a mother load of stickers! For setting, I randomly assigned the numbers: 3, 4, 5, and 6 using a sticker. And for the "other" category, I used the numbers 2, 9, and 10 using a sticker.

After all numbers had been placed onto the backside of the story cards, I then placed the same sets of numbers for each dice.

Setting, green dice: numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, 3, and 4
Characters, yellow dice: numbers 1, 7, 8, 1, 7, and 8
Other, blue dice: numbers 2, 10, 9, 2, 10, and 9

To Play:

Students will roll all three dice and say the numbers aloud. The student will find a matching card for each dice and place it on a place. After looking at the cards, the student will orally tell a story to a partner (and/or write the story on paper).
